PaLA Northwest Chapter Meeting July 27, 2007 |
Members of the Northwest Chapter’s conference planning
committee met in Meadville on July 27 to finalize preparations for the
chapter’s fall meeting and workshop scheduled for Friday, September 28, at
Cross Creek Resort in Titusville, Pa.
The members put the finishing touches to the workshop
schedule and discussed the menu as well as the cost of attendance. The group
decided to charge $20 for PaLA members; $25 for non-members; and $10 for
students.
Those in attendance agreed to contact all of the speakers
and verify their availability, and a list of the speakers was discussed.
Featured at the September 28 conference will be Glenn Miller, executive director
of the Pennsylvania Library Association, who will give the official welcome and
to bring members up to date on the latest news from PaLA. Bonnie Young, who is
head of public libraries and professional development with Commonwealth
Libraries, will offer the keynote speech for the day.
The other speakers for the day’s breakout sessions will
be Lynn Williams who serves as children’s librarian at the James V. Brown
Library in Williamsport; Janice Trapp, president of the Pennsylvania Library
Association and director of the James V. Brown Library in Williamsport; Susan
Miceli, children’s services manager at the Erie County Public Library; Robin
Nyberg, learning resource center manager at the Tri-State Business Institute and
a MLIS student at the University of Pittsburgh; and Marilyn Jenkins, executive
director of the Allegheny County Library Association.
It was noted that Veronica Pacella, chapter chairman, will
offer the opening remarks and introduce Glenn Miller and Bonnie Young.
John DiLeonardo and Dan Parker, committee members, made all
the final arrangements with Cross Creek Resort concerning the use of rooms for
the breakout sessions and the luncheon menu for the day. Sue Miceli created the
workshop brochure which was mailed out to all members of the Northwest chapter,
and volunteered to make up the agenda for the day. Darlene Marshall offered to
place the brochure onto the chapter’s website as an additional promotion for
the conference, and Barbara Thompson, membership chairman, sent out letters to
all new members welcoming them to the chapter and inviting them to attend the
conference.
Lois Strycula will design the evaluation forms for the day
of the workshop and will help to work at the registration table. Susan Walls
will take pictures throughout the day and write an article afterward to send to
the PaLA newsletter, and Tony Keck will help where needed the day of the event.
The day’s activities will begin at 9 a.m. with
registration and refreshments and continue until 2:45 p.m. A total of four
breakout sessions are planned, with two of them focusing on children’s
services and two focusing on management techniques and library operations.
It was decided that all registrations will be sent to John
DiLeonardo at the New Castle Public Library, 207 E. North Street, New Castle,
Pa., 16101, and that the deadline to return reservations would be September 21.
The committee agreed to keep in touch through email to finalize any other necessary arrangements prior to the September 28 conference.
