Scholarships and Continuing Education Grants

Available Grants

  • Scholarships for MLS Students (2008 update) Three Pennsylvania Library Association MLS Scholarships are available to Pennsylvania residents who are seeking a Masters degree in the Library Science field that will earn them professional status. This $1,500 award requires that twelve credits must be completed toward the degree during the scholarship year. Verification of enrollment in an ALA accredited graduate program is required.
  • Boyds Mills Press Conference Scholarship (2007 update) for first-time conference attendees who are involved in youth services
  • PaLA Youth Services Conference Grant, (2007 update) attending conference but not for first time. As always, I am happy to provide this small token for all I have gained through PaLA so that someone else might as well. Anonymous Donor
  • Brodart Conference Grant (2007 update) for support staff to attend their first conference
  • Brodart Undergraduate Scholarship Grant (2008 update) for undergraduate courses leading to state certification. Completion of three credits in an undergraduate library-related program at a state-certified institution is a grant requirement.

Priority is given in each of these scholarships to PaLA members. The deadline for submission for the MLS and Brodart Undergraduate Grant is May 15, 2008. The conference scholarships have a submission deadline of August 29, 2008.

 

PaLA Offers Continuing Education Grants

PaLA offers continuing education grants each year. Individuals awards up to a maximum of $200 can be used to fund any educational activity that enhances the applicant's ability to provide library service. PaLA members are invited to take advantage of this opportunity to attend workshops, seminars and other professionally enriching programs.

There is no deadline, applications will be accepted by the Scholarship Committee throughout the year. These grants have been sustained in part through generous contributions from PaLA members who donate to the Scholarship Fund, frequently at membership renewal time.
