This month we are doubling your fun with a two part episode on the PA Forward Star Library Program.

Part 1 deals with the development of the Star Library programs by a group from the 2015 Pennsylvania Library Association Leadership Academy. In this part we hear from Joann Eichenlaub, Assistant Director of the Roger and Peggy Madigan Library at Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA; Melissa Foltz, Director of the Manheim Community Library in Lancaster County; and Ed Wolf, Instructional/Reference Librarian at the Bethel Park Public Library in Allegheny County.
Team members also valuable to the success of the program were Anne Bramblett, Director of West Pittston Library; and Elizabeth Shoemaker, formerly at University of Scranton Weinberg Memorial Library.
Joann is the Assistant Director of the Roger and Peggy Madigan Library at Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA. She received her MSLS from Drexel University. She is an active member of the Pennsylvania Library Association. She currently serves as chair of the PA Forward Star Library Team. She as is a member of the PA Forward Steering Committee, the PA Forward Training Team, and also the Civic and Social Literacy Committee as well as the PA Forward Academic Outreach Committee. She was co-founder and past co-chair of the ACLCP Copyright Special Interest Group and currently serves as a member of the ACLCP Programs Committee.
Melissa is the Director of the Manheim Community Library in Lancaster County. She volunteers with the Pennsylvania Library Association as the Vice-President of the South Central Chapter. She also is a member of the PA Forward Civic & Social Literacy team and the PA Forward Star Library Program team. Melissa attended 2015 PALS and 2016 PALS for Directors. Outside of libraries, Melissa can be found thrifting, making, and laughing at humorous memoirs.
Ed is an Instructional/Reference Librarian at the Bethel Park Public Library, in Allegheny County. He earned his MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also earned BA degrees in English Literature, History and Anthropology. In addition to providing one-on-one and group instruction in technology at the library, he also works closely with the PA Forward Star Library Program and was a PALS 2015 graduate.
Part 2 deals with the pilot of the Star Library Program. In this part we hear from Barbara McGary, Executive Director of the James V. Brown Library in Williamsport, PA; Dana Brigandi, Public Relations and Community Partnership at James V. Brown Library; and Lis Miranda, Director of the Blossburg Memorial Library in Blossburg, PA.
Barbara is the executive director of the James V. Brown Library. Prior to that she was the District Consultant for the North Central Library District. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and and Master’s of Science in Libraries from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Currently she is studying for an MBA at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.
She lives in Muncy with her ten year old son, Patrick.
Dana is the public relations & community partnership manager at the James V. Brown Library, Williamsport. She is currently a librarian-in-training at Clarion University of Pennsylvania and the mother of two young readers.
Lis is the Director of the Blossburg Memorial Library. She previously worked for the YMCA at various locations for almost 18 years, most recently having held the position of branch executive director at the Tioga County Branch YMCA. Originally from New York City, she received a Bachelor’s degree from Hunter College in Near Eastern Archaeology and worked on archaeological digs in Israel, Jordan and Egypt.
