Learn the practical applications of 10 technology tools (including a mix of free, freemium, open source, & propriety) for enhancing instruction. Be prepared for interactive components. Bring your smartphones!

Using & Contributing to PA Photos and Documents in POWER Library - Maryam Phillips & Leigh-Anne Yacovelli
This session will demonstrate techniques for exploring & adding to the thousands of digitized documents & photographs from unique collections in libraries, historical societies, and archives across PA. Learn how to search, browse, download, and share materials discovered in PA Photos and Documents.

Socialize with other PaLA South Central Chapter members while enjoying your choice of a pre-ordered boxed lunch. Sandwich choices include smoked turkey and provolone, ham and swiss, portobello mushroom or roasted chicken with spinach. All boxed lunches include a side salad, fruit, cookies and beverage.

After lunch, choose your afternoon sessions and then re-group at the end of the day for the wrap up.

Simple & Inexpensive Ways to Preserve & Promote Your Library’s Digital Collections - Rob Sieczkiewicz
This workshop will begin with a discussion of our libraries’ preservation and promotion efforts. Attendees will then explore free resources for preservation and look at approaches for promoting and disseminating collections.

Tech Clubs for Kids & Teens: Minecraft Club & CoderDojo at MTPL - Sharon Roche
Learn about Manheim Township Public’s experience launching these very popular programs, what contributes to their success, and lessons learned.

Open Source ILS: Making the Transition - Mina Edmondson & Scott Thomas
In this session, presenters will share their experience at York County Libraries migrating from Millennium to Evergreen. They will discuss the benefits, acknowledge the challenges and answer questions related to the migration.

Technology Tools: Try It!
Join Emily Reed and Jill Hallam-Miller to try out some of the technologies they showcased earlier in the day. This open lab will give you a chance to create accounts and try out some of the products while they are still fresh in your mind and the presenters are available to answer your questions.

Wrap Up and Evaluations

 

PaLA will not issue refunds for cancellations or no-shows to the workshop. Replacement attendees will be permitted with proper notice. Any unused fee will be designated as support for the South Central Chapter.
