SESSIONS

9:45—10:45: PA Forward: Taking your Library to the Star Level. By Brandi Hunter-Davenport.

The Star Library program takes PA Forward to the next level by demonstrating how libraries can build their capacity and engage more citizens in the programs being offered. This session will: 1) provide an overview of how the program works; 2) demonstrate to the libraries how things they are already doing are aiding them in achieving their star status; and 3) will educate participants on how to use the tools of PA Forward to strengthen their positions within their local areas.

11:00—12:00: Meeting Efficiency: Collaboration Powered by Google.  By Marian Knopp.

Learn about how HACC Library has improved their meeting efficiency while increasing collaboration through the use of ongoing agendas and meeting templates. Save time, paper, and email attachments by switching to Google Drive for an effective approach to meeting administration.

12:00—1:30: Lunch & MARCO: The Exploration Station. A boxed lunch will be provided. (See options on registration form)

1:30—2:30: Elevator Speeches.  By Kathy Silks.

Your communication about your library is a key factor in building its reputation as a community asset. In this session, you will develop and practice your own brief marketing pitch to communicate your library’s value whenever the opportunity arises. You will get ideas for when to use these pitches and how to get comfortable using them.

Choose your last session and then re-group at the end of the day for the wrap up and tour of PA College of Health.

2:45—3:45 Option 1: Helping Friends Help Advocate for Better Libraries.  By Denise Sticha.
The presentation will focus on how library directors can help encourage and train Friends members to become effective advocates of better libraries on both the local and state level.

2:45—3:45 Option 2: The Training Circuit—How to Keep

Your Training Programs Moving By Wendy McClure & Diane Porterfield

Volunteer and student workers are part of the library’s circuit board.  They assist in keeping everything moving from the books to the program assistance and greeting your customers. Join us as we discuss our experiences in training these very important components to the library.
