 Kristin Varner, BA, CRS

The RASE Project

Kristin Varner received her BA from Shippensburg University in August 2000. Prior to joining the RASE Project, she worked as an assistant for the television station, WHTM ABC 27 in Harrisburg, PA. She was appointed to the Citizens Advisory Committee for Cumberland County Children & Youth in 2013 to serve as a representative of the recovery community. Most recently, Kristin was appointed to The Pennsylvania Advisory Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse. As an active member of the Recovery Community, Kristin volunteers on several community-based committees such as The Substance Abuse & Prevention Coalition, and The Cumberland County Opiate Overdose Coalition (COOP). Kristin is a Certified Recovery Specialist and has been in recovery herself since September 2, 2005. Currently, Kristin oversees all Carlisle RASE Programs, facilitates RASE educational trainings, maintains the “In My Own Words Speaker’s Bureau” and is the responsible for all RASE advocacy efforts.

I speak between 70-80 times per year. Anywhere from 30min-6 hours.

Dan Weiss is the co-founder of Libraries and Autism: We’re Connected, a nationally recognized, award-winning program (now it its 11th year) that promotes inclusion, connecting libraries with the autism community, and bringing awareness of the needs of individuals with ASD and their families to the library community. He has been the director of the Fanwood Memorial Library for over 20 years, and has served locally, regionally and state wide on many civic and library related organizations, committees and boards. After hours, Dan continues his varied music career, now with well over 50 years of performing, playing the guitar, singing and writing songs.

Diane has over 35 years of business and teaching experience. She has started her own training and business consulting company called Knowledge Connections, LLC. Diane has a Bachelor’s degree in Business (BS) and Master’s degree in Training and Organizational Development (MS). She is also pursuing her Ph.D. in Education. Diane earned her IEPP (International Event Planning Professional) designation in the event planning field. She is a keynote speaker and holds many seminars at conferences throughout the United States. Diane has over 10 years of teaching experience at corporations, universities, colleges, and technical schools. She also works at local community colleges in the non-credit and workforce development divisions.

Fees: Can be waived in some cases; most workshops under $250

Rob Lesher received his MLS from Syracuse University in 1996. Over his professional career he worked for the Adams County Library System as Head of Information Services, Assistant Director/IT Director, and Executive Director. He worked as the Executive Director for the Dauphin County Library System. I have served as PaLA President, Treasurer, and ALA Councilor. I have just finished my six year term on the PaForward Steering Committee. I believe strongly in the power of the public library to change lives, but to be successful at that, the library needs to be a part of the community and look to the community for insight into what its goals should be.

Brief Biography: Dr. Lappas is a public speaker, author, lawyer, and prize winning artist headquartered in Harrisburg.

He has a PhD in American Studies from Pennsylvania State University where he researches American law and culture. His teaching areas include American Studies, History, Law and Society, Political Science and Public Policy. He graduated from Allegheny College (BA cum laude ‘74), where he was twice named an Alden Scholar, received Departmental Honors at graduation and the Muhlfinger Prize for his independent research; and from Dickinson School of Law (JD cum laude‘77), where he was on the Editorial Board of the Law Review, a member and faculty adviser of the National Trial Moot Court Team, and winner of two American Jurisprudence Awards. He was later named to the Woolsack Society.

He is licensed to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States, all Pennsylvania state courts, and several federal courts. He has been lead counsel in 100s of major cases including some of the region's most important trials. He served as an inaugural member of the Pennsylvania Senate Advisory Committee to Study the Causes of Wrongful Convictions and the Pennsylvania Legislative Advisory Committee to Study the Death Penalty.

He was one of the nation's youngest attorneys to be named in the first edition of The Best Lawyers in America. He has been in Who's Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the World, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, and The Bar Register of Pre-Eminent Lawyers.

He is published in the Dickinson Law Review, The Champion (the journal of the National Association of criminal Defense Lawyers), the Harrisburg Patriot-News, and the Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography. He is a member of American Mensa, a tournament Scrabble champion, and a competitive three weapon fencer.

Brief Biography: Scott Thomas has been in the library profession for over 30 years in a variety of public service and management positions, but most of his career has been spent managing technology projects in public libraries. He is currently Executive Director of Pennsylvania Integrated Library System and an adjunct faculty member at Northampton Community College where he teaches library-related courses.
