Jan McInnis, Professional Keynote Speaker/Comedian

Posted By Leslie W. Christianson, Wednesday, January 21, 2015

Speaker: Jan McInnis, Professional Keynote Speaker/Comedian

Area/s of Expertise:

Finding The Funny In Change Keynote Address:
Whether it’s going green or the myriad of new rules that govern the industry, we are constantly reacting to a new playing field. From reform to the new industry rules and regulations that are being developed, professionals are routinely having to reassess and re-evaluate their practices.
And all of this change causes fear, tension and miscommunications!
This is Jan’s most popular keynote, because she combines her hilarious comedy with PRACTICAL tips on dealing with change through using humor.
Jan will show you how to:
• diffuse tension instantly,
• kick off tough conversations
• facilitate communications
. . . all by using humor that you, yourself can do. And she’ll also give you the latest research between laughter and health – yes they’re actually studying this stuff! Customized for your event and industry this keynote will have attendees walk away laughing AND learning as they discover the steps they can take to conquer, and even embrace, change.

Target Audience/s

  • Support Staff
  • Library Administrators & Management
  • Library Board Members
  • Library Instructors

About the Speaker:

For professional speaker and comedienne Jan McInnis, life is full of “finding the funny.” She – and the audiences who continually rate her programs “hilarious” – wouldn’t have it any other way.
Inspired by fifteen years as a marketing director in the 9 to 5 world, Jan has cornered the association and corporate convention market. And over the past 19+ years on the full-time speaking circuit, she has spoken at hundreds of conferences, employee retreats and banquets held by such groups as Anthem Blue-Cross, the American Heart Association, the Federal Reserve Banks, and the Mayo Clinic. Jan was featured in the “Wall Street Journal” as one of the top convention comedians whose material is clean and in the Washington Post for her clean comedy writing.

Learning doesn’t have to be boring! Jan has a knack for humorous analysis, which enables her to keep her audiences laughing, not just with a comedy show, but also with some of her keynotes such as “Finding the Funny in Change.” In this keynote she shows people how to use humor to handle change.

Jan has also sold comedy material to just about everyone. . . from the Tonight Show monologue, to greeting cards, hundreds of radio stations and even guests on the “Jerry Springer Show” (yes, some of it is staged), and she is author of 2 books - “Finding the Funny Fast: How to Create Quick Humor to Connect with Clients, Coworkers and Crowds.” And “Convention Comedian: Stories and Wisdom From Two Decades of Chicken Dinners and Comedy Clubs”

Born in D.C., Jan was in charge of the “Joke of the Day” for her junior high school lunch table. Not surprisingly, she majored in communications at Virginia Tech, where she was a disk jockey for the local radio station.

In 2007, she joined Flow Circus to create programs that engage tweens and teens in the development of healthy lifestyles, character education, and 21st century skills using the juggling arts. With the recent release of her first book, Grounded for Good, she now adds writer to her skill set. As both an educator and author, Dawn works to instill a love of learning in the children, teens, and adults she encounters.

Paul Miller, Executive Director After earning a degree in accounting, Paul Miller realized that he could have a much bigger impact on people by sharing his unique brand of humor and playfulness (which didn’t really fit in the corporate world). A self-taught juggler and performance artist, his influences include masters of silent film Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplain and physical stand-up comics such as Steve Martin and Robin Williams. Paul has toured his solo-show, Just Paul, across the US and recent credits include off-Broadway performances and Disney Cruise Lines. In 1999, Paul founded Flow Circus with a mission to promote active learning and play through the juggling arts.
