PaLA is not just a professional organization, but a great big library family. As a new librarian I joined PaLA because I wanted a way to meet fellow librarians in my community and learn more about the profession. As a member of the Northeast Chapter, I was able to work on small projects that affected the local chapter of the organization as well as learn from other librarians in my field.
Joining at the beginning of my career aided in my development as a librarian. Through presentations and poster sessions at local and annual conferences, I was able to share what I was learning with fellow librarians. I was also able to build a network of colleagues who shared similar interests and could rely on for help with library projects. I was able to take on leadership roles early in my career with the local chapter and statewide PaLA committees and the YSD Division.
I was honored to be awarded the New Librarian Honor Award in 2010, participated in the Academy of Leadership Studies in 2010 and most recently elected to the Board of Director as a Director at Large.
Just like a supportive family, PaLA has helped me and I’m glad to return the flavor.
