Community Book Group

Description

Once a month a librarian leads an adult book discussion at a local YMCA community center. The book selection is usually fiction, but sometimes a non-fiction book is selected. The community center serves participants a hot lunch "sample", usually a pasta casserole. Participants often ask the librarian questions about technology/devices. The librarian brings the books to the center each month, and participants return their books at the next meeting. This location allows participation by attendees who could not walk the further distance from the main street (and bus stop) to the library. This is partnership between the library and North Boroughs YMCA Community Center. No direct costs were incurred by the library.

Description

As participants in Lebanon County Reads, patrons are offered the opportunity to participate in many library and committee events between August 6 - November 13, 2018. Richland Community Library is hosting a book discussion as a part of our Fall Series. Patrons may reserve/pick up a copy of print, audio, and e-book materials at any library in Lebanon County and join us on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the inaugural title – America’s First Daughter by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie.

This program is supported by a partnership with Lebanon County Reads, Lebanon County Libraries, Congregation Beth Israel, and the Bishop Foundation.

Note, we were gifted five regular print, one large print, and one audiobook version of the book by Congregation Beth Israel. If we had had to purchase, the copies would have cost about $170. Outside of staff time and participation, there aren’t any other costs involved in hosting the event.
