Meyersdale Public Library celebrates African American History Month

Description

Author Lynn Bowman presented a power-point program about regional African-American history, based on her book "Everyone Counts -- A History of African-American Enslavement in Allegany County, Maryland." (Our library is located near the Maryland border.) The author included information about a local African-American veteran of the U.S. Civil War who was recently honored by our local historical society and G.A.R. Post.

Introduction to Monologue Writing

Description

Calling all storytellers! In this course we will learn how to develop exciting characters and write compelling monologues for the stage. Over the course of three workshops, students will be guided through a series of creative prompts that will unleash their inner dramatist as we explore the elements of dramatic writing. Through reading and discussing monologues by some of the most fascinating contemporary playwrights working today, students will leave the course with a better understanding of how to capture an audience‚Äôs imagination through the words of just one character.
