Publications-Print & Online
By no means a comprehensive list of places publish, this list illustrates the range of publications in library science--from widely-read trade magazines broad in scope to very focused scholarly research journals. We have also included a few book review publications and collaborative blogs, which may better suit your interests. Most descriptions are paraphrased from the publication’s website and insights into publishing with that source are offered when possible.
Talk with your colleagues to find out where they have published and what advice they have for getting your article accepted. It is important to familiarize yourself with the scope and audience of the source before submitting articles. This information is often included in the publication’s advice for authors and can be further illustrated by familiarizing yourself with their published content. In fact, a good rule of thumb is to seek publication in magazines and journals you are already regularly reading!
Other ways of getting started with professional writing include contacting the editor of local newsletters with article ideas. This may include your school district or community newsletters, or newsletters for your professional associations or library school.
