ALA Council News & Issues

The Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) is a chapter of the American Library Association (ALA), with a flexible relationship. PaLA recognizes, but makes no official statement on, ALA advocacy efforts and issues.

PaLA's ALA Chapter Councilor

Serving through December 2019: Rob Lesher

Each chapter of ALA is entitled to one councilor to be elected by members of the chapter for a term of three years. The chapter councilor provides representation at the national level by voicing the position of the chapter on ALA affairs, reporting to the chapter on the business conducted at meetings of the ALA Council, and establishing liaison between the chapter and the national Association on issues related to the purposes of each Association.

ALA Advocacy and Issues

Through a strategic plan, ALA is committed to Key Action Areas as guiding principles for investment of energies and resources. PaLA will periodically provide updates and information to supplement these efforts, and encourages member discussion in the forums.
