Library Type Public Description: This program for high school students ties in nicely for the month of November if your library celebrates DINOVEMBER! This hands-on program brings teens into the kitchen to learn about kitchen science, practice artistic skills and more. We had a blast creating Rice Krispie Volcanoes, Dinosaur Pudding Cups, and Dinosaur Eggs. The participants were able to measure out their ingredients and choose items to decorate their creations with. We talked about why measurements matter when baking and about what happens to food in the oven, on the stove, etc. The teens also steered the conversation into dinosaurs and what ones are the favorites and what they know about the different time-periods. This program can easily be replicated in libraries that don't have kitchens by utilizing pre-made ingredients like Rice Kripie bars, pudding cups, etc. If you do have a kitchen or the ability to use portable stovetops than you can do more hands-on cooking by making rice krispie treats and pudding from scratch. Overall this is a fun and engaging program for teens. It can easily be replicated through a take-and-make or in-person event. Tags: Civic & Social Teens |
