Library Type

Public

Cost and Funding:

$25-$40 (depending on supplies you may have or not have on hand)

Description:

A Halloween take on baking soda and vinegar experiments for ages 2-5. This can easily be modified for a variety of themes.

Potions Ingredients: baking soda, vinegar, food coloring (yellow, re, blue to add coloring mixing), shaving cream, colored sugar (add food coloring to sugar), Halloween sprinkles (left over from another program)

Other Materials: mini pumpkin buckets and black cauldrons, squirt bottles (had), aluminum baking pans with sides (had), cups or bowls to put ingredients into (had), spoons (had)

Set Up: Place aluminum baking pans at various work spaces, and place mini pumpkin buckets and cauldrons in the pans. This will help keep the mess confined. Add vinegar and food coloring (yellow, red, blue) to squirt bottles. Add baking soda, colored sugar and sprinkles to cups or bowls, and place a spoon in each.

Program Instructions: Kids experiment mixing the variety of ingredients.

Depending on the size of your group you could schedule two time slots to spread out participants. Your would then need less buckets/cauldrons, squirt bottles, cups, spoons and pans.
