Cutting the (Cable) Cord
This event was hosted to assist individuals interested in learning more about how to decrease their cable bills. The session highlighted alternatives to cable including the basics of streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, etc), how to determine which option is best for your household and included an open dialogue around the pros and cons of any of the services. The presenter was with Main Line Night School. The event was geared toward adults and cost the library about $150 to host.

The Dingman Township branch of the Pike County Public Library now has a new harvest community garden open to locals and visitors to water, weed, and harvest, or just enjoy. Five raised garden beds have been installed with themes; including two pizza themed gardens, a sensory garden, and two pollinator garden beds that the bees and butterflies will make use of. Local Master Gardener, Carol Padalino, helped to design and plan of each of the beds, and many of the plants where donated by the Delaware Township Community Garden.

This was a free activity fair for children ages preschool through second grade and their families. Several activity stations were available, enhancing pre- and early reading skills – including Giant Candyland, large letter blocks, letter art, sing-alongs, and a book giveaway.

The Youth Services Coordinator conducts Storytime Yoga biweekly at both the New Kensington and Lower Burrell locations. Children, one to six years of age, listen to a story that inspires movement and then perform both traditional and inspired yoga moves. This program ties into PA Forward’s basic and health literacies.
