Bingo at the Library

December 6, 2021

Designed for seniors and older adults, the library holds Bingo once a month, usually the third Monday of the month from 2-4 PM. During the program, attendees can win some value prizes like activity books, decorations, books, and calendars. The Dollar stores have a wider selection now of decor and craft kits. Games are played until all prizes are gone. There are around 8-10 prizes per Bingo program. Banned Books Week Interactive Display

November 12, 2021

Using a list of banned books, paper bags, and descriptions of why they were banned we created an interactive display for our patrons to explore during Banned Books Week. While we did not have all of the Top Ten Banned Books currently at our library, we tried to assemble a list that represented books across different genres. Each book was placed under a paper bag that listed the reason(s) it was banned. Patrons could then lift up the bag to see what the book was. Patrons commented on several of the choices that they were surprised and shocked that people had banned them. It also led to a larger conversation about how banning books occurs and how libraries are an important resource for all.

Lean and Green: Gift Making on a Budget

August 19, 2021

This program integrated financial literacy into a fun crafting event. At the program, a local artist led 20 participants through the process of creating a mini succulent kokedama (plants in a moss ball) that they could give as a gift or keep for themselves. While the cost of supplies was covered by the library and the event offered free of charge, participants received a breakdown of costs and instructions so they could make another budget-friendly gift in the future, as well as a short overview and worksheets on planning and tracking gift spending for the holidays. The event also included food and beverages, and a pop-up library with personal finance, budgeting, and DIY/crafting books, and was promoted mainly by the library’s social media and word of mouth.

Virtual Book Club

July 13, 2021

The Virtual Book Club meets once a month and, rather than picking a specific book to discuss, each participant chooses their own book to read based on a theme. During the meeting, everyone will give a brief summary of their book, how it fits the theme, and what they thought about it. The club is a great way to find new books to read while still choosing the types of books each participant enjoys.
