PA Forward Commons Submissions
The Youth Services Coordinator conducts Storytime Yoga biweekly at both the New Kensington and Lower Burrell locations. Children, one to six years of age, listen to a story that inspires movement and then perform both traditional and inspired yoga moves. This program ties into PA Forward’s basic and health literacies.
Learn MoreAs part of Bosler’s Summer Learning programming, we are offering basic financial literacy classes in partnership with BB&T Bank. The sessions will run the 3rd Wednesday of each month during the summer. The seminars will talk about the basics of checking accounts and budgeting. The last session will also talk about identity theft and how to protect yourself. In addition to the presentations, Bosler will be holding displays related to each topics presented and offer additional learning materials that attendees can check-out from our collection. The library partnered with BB&T Bank to bring in financial professionals to present on financial topics. The only costs incurred were for the printing of program marketing materials.
Learn MoreSpecial guest Steven Bomze joined us for a barnyard-themed story time and craft, celebrating the PA One Book. Steven uses both a wheelchair and an iPad to communicate inclusion and tolerance. This program was co-sponsored by CIS (Community Integrated Services), a nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals with special needs get involved and work to better their community.

Learn MoreThe theme for the 2019 Law Day, observed annually on May 1, was Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society. The display showed a timeline of important cases, provided free pocket U.S. Constitutions. The interactive engagement was a contest where students were asked to name the five freedoms guaranteed in the 1st Amendment and submit their answers on a form to be entered into a drawing for prizes. We used free resources from the American Bar Institute’s Law Day website to support the program. Total cost for program execution was $40.
Learn MoreSocrates Cafe is a monthly moderated meeting of adults who discuss current events and topics. Past discussions have been: What is the legacy of the Kavanaugh hearings? Should the Electoral College be abolished? And where do your rights stop and those of others begin?
The discussions are facilitator by a former library board member who is an experienced moderator. The discussions are open to the public and all are welcome to attend. The program promotes civic and social literacy.
There is a minimal cost as we try to provide snacks to participants.
Learn MoreAuthor Bonnie Rosario, originally from the Boyertown area, wrote Chicken Girl. This story talks about Bonnie’s experience caring for chickens when she was a young girl. The author read the book, had a discussion around life experiences and completed a small craft with attendees. She also had copies of her book available for purchase, autographing copies as well.
Learn MoreThis program engages students in a reading challenge where they each receive a passport and have to check out and read books tied into a number of genres. The program encourages they to make connections to everyday life and to have discussion around the different types of writing and subject matters covered.
Learn MoreSocial media platforms like Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter are used by people of all ages. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by all the technology. The library host sessions to share and learn more about how senior citizens are using social media to stay connected with friends and family. The sessions conclude with a question and answer segment.
Learn MoreThis is a monthly book club meeting the library host year-round. Our members are retired and working adults. We use book kits provided by our District Library. We also use other books at the request of our members. We read varied genres and authors, exploring different themes and avenues for discussion. There aren’t any costs outside of staff time and the use of library space for this program.
