Our book fair has evolved from a simple night of shopping to fundraise for the library to a night of arts and books. We showcase our students through a school wide art show, choral performances, and student instrumental music performances. The public library attends when possible to share information about summer reading opportunities

Why should someone choose to work as a Census Taker? Census positions provide the perfect opportunity to earn extra income while helping your community. The results of the 2020 Census will help determine your state’s representation in Congress, as well as how certain funds are spent for schools, hospitals, roads, and more. This is your chance to play a part in history and help ensure everyone in your community is counted!

We did a display that highlighted shopping local during the holiday season. We provided flyers and links to Lancaster County Shopping and City of Lancaster Shopping as well as information on the benefits of supporting small businesses in the local community. This display supported the entrepreneurship programs on our campus.

The local YMCA provided the Library with an instructor and materials at no cost and came to the Library to conduct the class which had over 50 adults, teens and children register. Participants learned some basic sign language signs and concluded the night with a talk on deaf culture. Plans are in the works to make it a monthly offering.

FunFest is a free event coordinated by the Adams County Library System that kicks off Summer Quest. It is held at the local recreation park in Gettysburg and it features activities for the entire family, including face painting, balloon art and more.

Adults are challenged to read a minimum of five books and up to fifteen books within a six week period. Reading the minimum of five books enters their name into a drawing for a grand prize. Reading fifteen books completes the challenge gets them a second entry.

Children and Teens experimented with LEGOs, collaborating and building a variety of LEGO creations

The Adult Literacy Program assists adults with basic literacy issues, assist in filling out job applications, GED tutoring, and now ESL classes. Students contact the library and are put into contact with a tutor that fits their needs. All programming takes place in the Adult Literacy Room.

Our sensory friendly story hour is a six-week program with weekly after-school sessions for children with autism spectrum disorders, sensory integration difficulties, or other developmental disabilities. In thiis partnership with the Carrolltown Public Library and the Master of Occupational Therapy Program at Saint Francis University, a professor and college students came to the library to work and play with the children. The librarian read stories and children had time for crafts and free play. We are looking forward to our next program next semester.. It was exciting to see the children learn and become comfortable in the library. It was a win-win-win for the children, the library, and the university students who gained valuable experience.

On Reading Day (the day before final exams begin), we bring therapy dogs to the library for students to meet, pet, and hug as a stress reducer for students. We partner with Therapy Dogs International to bring dogs to the library. A staff member makes sure there are plenty of water dishes for the pups and also makes them treat bags. We also provide coffee for the dog handlers. This is our most popular event every year with close to 200 students attending each semester.
