Abington Community Library celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Lackawanna County Library System as one of the libraries hosting the “Taste the World” series. Our Library featured mediterranean cuisine and partnered with one of the local mediterranean restaurants. The chef prepared Mediterranean dishes and spoke about the history of Mediterranean cuisine.

Drop off gently used children’s costumes at Abington Community Library. Let’s share and re-use what already exists. Help another child, the environment, and your wallet.
Santa visits the library and signs a story using American Sign Language. An interpreter speaks the story as Santa signs. The children sing songs and enjoy refreshments and receive treats and a book as gifts. Children can visit with Santa; an interpreter is used for children/families that do not know ASL. This event is held annually.

Learn MoreWomen were invited to listen to Gary McGovern from Thrivent about women-specific money issues. He invited people to eat, then had a powerpoint with topics like: how women need more for retirement because they live longer, why women are afraid to invest and how that costs them, how financial illiteracy hinders women, the wage gap, and how women prioritize saving over investing. Afterwards, he allowed time for questions and gave people his information for individual consultations.

Learn MoreA licensed realter from a local realty company (Coldwell Banker Realty) hosts/facilitates a free workshop at the library for first-time homebuyers. The workshop goes over things such as: down payments, escrow, inspections, and tips on how to save money to buy a house.
Learn MoreCelebrate Diwali with BBPL! Hear Miss Sarah read a Diwali story to the kids and create themed decorations to light up the library. Sweets are an important part of the celebration – bring a plate of cookies or cakes to share with your neighbors! We’ll end the night with a dance party, games, and community.
