Learn MoreOur sensory friendly story hour is a six-week program with weekly after-school sessions for children with autism spectrum disorders, sensory integration difficulties, or other developmental disabilities. In thiis partnership with the Carrolltown Public Library and the Master of Occupational Therapy Program at Saint Francis University, a professor and college students came to the library to work and play with the children. The librarian read stories and children had time for crafts and free play. We are looking forward to our next program next semester.. It was exciting to see the children learn and become comfortable in the library. It was a win-win-win for the children, the library, and the university students who gained valuable experience.
Learn MoreOn Reading Day (the day before final exams begin), we bring therapy dogs to the library for students to meet, pet, and hug as a stress reducer for students. We partner with Therapy Dogs International to bring dogs to the library. A staff member makes sure there are plenty of water dishes for the pups and also makes them treat bags. We also provide coffee for the dog handlers. This is our most popular event every year with close to 200 students attending each semester.

Learn MoreEveryone is talking about the spotted lanternfly, and how many of them we are seeing on the trees on Conshohocken. We are hosting a presentation by a Montgomery County Park Ranger and a Penn State Master Watershed Steward so that we can learn more about how these insects will affect the area. Our presenter will discuss the expected impact on all of us as homeowners, famrers, gardeners and grocery buyers, and will give us tips on how we can fight back. This is not the first time our library has worked with the Green Conshy group to bring a program highlighting environmental awareness to our patrons. We have found it to be a valuable partnership, and look forward to working with them again in the future.
Learn MoreThe Medicare Annual Open Enrollment Period for 2019 will be from October 15 to December 7. During this period each year, Medicare beneficiaries can join, switch or drop their Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage coverage. Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plans change the coverage and costs each year, so it is important to review your plan and compare it to others on the market that are available to Lancaster County residents. These unbiased and friendly counselors will help you understand your options in comparing Part D and Medicare Advantage plans at the following events in the community. This counseling is free. If you’d like to schedule an appointment, and you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan or Prescription Drug plan, please call Lancaster County Office of Aging, (717) 299-7979 or 1-800-801-3070. Learn MoreMadcap Mondays is a free, weekly program offered throughout the school year to students in grades 3-7. This year’s sessions are designed around the theme of being green and environmentally friendly. Each week, staff share information on environmental challenges and ways to get involved and make a positive impact on the environment and in our community. The information is provided in context with an upcycling activity where students take an everyday object and give it new life. Ideas for activities are found on Pinterest and other websites. For example, students brought in an old t-shirt and created a no-sew bag to use.
